The former Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman in the Eastern region, Kofi Osei Ameyaw says Ghanaians have not benefited from the ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ promised by the ruling National Democratic Congress government.
Mr. Osei Ameyaw explained that the NDC in 2008 general elections promised “milk and honey” when voted into power, but this has been an illusion, because none of the promises has been fulfilled.
At a panel discussion on the topic “Abuse of incumbency and revelations from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC)” on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem Friday with Adakabre Frimpong Manso, Mr. Osei Ameyaw who was the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry under the Kufuor administration said the NDC promised that corruption will not be tolerated in their regime, but he said the reality today is that corruption is at its peak in the ruling government.
He stressed that prices of goods and commodities have been rising in the past two-and-half years that the NDC assumed office, adding that Ghanaians were better off under the NPP administration than they are in the current government.
However, Ben Akyena Brantuo of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff said the NPP did not have the interest of Ghanaians at heart during their tenure of office as was evident in the manner in which they allegedly amassed wealth from the masses.
Akyena Brantuo argued that the NPP was not committed in fighting corruption that is why none of their members was prosecuted in their administration.
On the issue of President Atta Mills’ supposed mansion on Asanfra Street at Spintex Road, Accra, Akyena Brantuo maintained that the building is a small shelter for security men guarding the First Family’s residence, adding, “these lies against the president will not fly”.
He noted the opposition NPP are desperate to regain power, but Ghanaians have experienced the good governance of the NDC and will retain the Atta Mills-led administration in the 2012 general elections.
