Deputy Minister of Tourism James Agyenim Boateng has expressed regret for his recent verbal clash with NPP’s Communications Director Nana Akomea.
Speaking on Joy FM's news analysis programme Newsfile on Saturday 20 August, 2011, the Deputy Tourism Minister apologised to listeners who were "offended" by the exchanges but stopped short of apologising to Nana Akomea.
The two engaged in heated exchanges on Joy FM’s news analysis programme Newsfile two weeks ago over the controversial Baba Jamal journalists’ bribery allegations.
The opposition New Patriotic Party had held a press conference urging government to investigate the alleged bribery.
In his reaction on the show, Mr Agyenim Boateng said the demand "betrays the intelligence" of the organisers of the press conference. But Nana Akomea who chaired the NPP press conference did not take kindly to the response and referred to the Deputy Minister as a "stupid fool."
Mr. Agyenim Boateng and Nana Akomea have both justified their actions blaming each other for the incident.
But the Deputy Tourism Minister admitted on Newsfile the exchanges were not the best.
“The last time I was here there was a most-unfortunate incident on the programme and for me I wish it had not happened. For those who were offended by that development, I pledge myself, I dedicate myself to politics of discussing issues and staying on issues,” he said.
Although Mr Agyenim Boateng has described the incident as unfortunate he stopped short of apologizing to Nana Akomea.
