Three-time goal king of the Ghanaian league, Dan Owusu says he wants the Ghana Football Association to hand him the job of training strikers in the country.
The ex-Black Stars and Bofoakwa Tano striker, popularly known as the Goal Machine, finished top scorer of the 1974 season with 24 goals, netted an improved 26 goals the following season and a further 28 to seal a hat trick of titles.
The 60-year-old, who is currently coaching, is concerned that strikers of today are scoring an average of 15 goals to win the top scorer award and he intends to improve the situation.
Speaking to JOY Sports Dennis Mirpuri, Dan Owusu said, “the GFA has to use us because some of us are resource personnel. We have to be given a chance so that we can teach the young guys who are coming now. If we are able to teach about maybe five strikers how to score goals, if we are lucky we can have about two or three who can be the top scorers in the country.”
He added that, “Our goal scoring has come down and it all depends on the creativity of the players. These present footballers have to think before they receive the ball, that is how you can even get the goals but if you want to receive the ball before making a decision then you will miss the goal scoring chance.”
The legendary goal poacher’s record was equaled by former Hearts of Oak player Ishmael Addo who also won the goal king title for three consecutive times in the 2000, 2001 and 2002 Premier League seasons.
