A Human Rights Activist, Mr. Daniel Asare Korang has raised concerns over the abuse of the Justice for All System. The Justice for All System was introduced by the Ministry of Justice, to ease pressure on prison facilities and de-congest the cells by granting pardon to suspects who have been on remand for years while their cases have not been heard. Recent reports of programme beneficiaries allegedly engaging in robberies and other violent crimes, have however raised concerns. Daniel Asare Korang who is a Programmes Officer at the Human Rights Advocacy Centre has urged that those who are freed must be counseled and be provided with job opportunities to prevent them from going back into criminal activities. Mr. Asare told Asempa News in an interview that, despite the relevance of the Justice for All programme which enables those who are the main breadwinners in their families to be able to go back to their families to make ends meet, it is creating problems in the Ghanaian society. According to him, provision of job opportunities like absorbing beneficiaries into the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) and counseling programmes should be attached to the Justice for All system to re-integrate them into the society. He said this will enable them to resist the temptation to go back into criminal activities. According to him, those who are fortunate to be released must not just be allowed to go home but must rather be monitored to know their next steps in life.
