A security analyst at the Kofi Annan International Peace Keeping Training Centre is calling for the amendment of the law on recruitment into the Narcotic Control Board.
Dr Kwasi Aning believes PNDC Law 266, does not give the NACOB boss enough power to pry into the privacy of its employees.
He was commenting on the arrest of 15 officials of NACOB who were picked up at the Kotoka International Airport for drug related offences.
The suspects are believed to have aided and abetted drug lords in the exportation of the narcotic substances out of the country.
The suspects are reported to be in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations but NACOB has been tightlipped on the matter.
The arrests come at a time the NACOB boss, Akrasi Sarpong has been vocal in his criticisms of politicians some of who he accused of facilitating the drugs trade.
Dr. Aning told Joy News the law must be changed.
“What we can do, first, is to change the law. PNDC Law 266 does not give Mr. Akrasi Sarpong the teeth and strength to go out there and do what is right. It doesn’t allow him to gauge into the backgrounds of those he wants to recruit. We need to ensure that those who heads these institutions... are given the legal backing to ensure that when they recruit and train that we have a system in place that can play an oversight role.
He said the law should be such that it should be possible for the emails and telephone calls of the employees of NACOB to be routinely scanned.
He was not however surprised that NACOB has been infiltrated by the drug lords.
