A 20-year-old school dropout who robbed a female teacher at knifepoint and later locked her up in her room at Bechem Junction in the Tano South District in the Brong-Ahafo Region has been sentenced to 65 years imprisonment by the Duayaw Nkwanta Circuit Court.
The convict, Philip Ameyaw, who robbed the teacher who was also a nursing mother, of GH¢320.00 and a mobile phone, was convicted on his own plea on four counts of conspiracy to commit crime, robbery, unlawful entry and assault.
The court, presided over by Mr Ekow Mensah, also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of his accomplice, Kwadwo Frimpong, who is now on the run.
Prosecuting, Police Detective Inspector R.Y. Okrah told the court that at about 11:30.a.m on May 11, 2011, the convict and his accomplice, armed with a machete, attacked the complainant, who was nursing a one-and-a-half months old baby, in her house at Bechem Junction and robbed her of GH¢320.00 and her mobile phone.
He said after robbing her of the money and the mobile phone, the duo locked up the teacher in her room and bolted.
Inspector Okrah said based on suspicion, Ameyaw was arrested on May 19, 2011 and during an identification parade conducted at the Bechem Police Station the female teacher identified him.
He said the suspect, after the identification, admitted the offence and also mentioned Kwadwo Frimpong as his accomplice.
