The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), organizers of the pre-season G8 tournament believe the competition will be a success even with the absence of giants, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
Kotoko and Hearts pulled out of the event for varied reasons. Interim GHALCA chairman Alhaji Raji told JOY Sports, “Much as I agree these two groups have the largest following in the country, we should at the same time also take in totality the number of football fans in the country Vis à Vis each club.”
He added that, “When you add the supporters of the other fourteen clubs (in the premier league) together, I am very sure their fans will be more than the two glamorous clubs.”
GHALCA has drawn the participating clubs in two groups for the September 10 big kick off.
League champions Chelsea of Berekum, Aduana Stars, New Edubease and Heart of Lions are drawn in Group A while FC Nania, AshantiGold, Medeama and Liberty Professionals are in Group B.
The winner will be handed $35,000.
