Revenue from timber exports for the first half of this year declined relative to the same period last year.
The 60 million Euros which accrued from the export between January and June is 7 million short of what the country earned for the same period last year. The exports also declined in volume.
Though a total of 200,000 cubic meters were exported last year just about 183,000 cubic meters were exported this year.
The Executive Director of the Timber Industry Development Division, Alhassan Atta attributed the decline to what he describes as a turbulent market.
He said the crises facing the US housing market certainly contributed to the decline.
He told Joy Business the trend may not change for the rest of the year.
