The National Propaganda Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC),Richard Quashigah has lashed out at the opposition New Patriotic Party flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for playing on the emotions and sensibilities of Ghanaians.
Richard Quashigah opined that Nana Akufo-Addo in the delivery of his policy statement at the maiden edition of the Liberty Lecture organised by the Danquah Institutte (DI), sought to engage in ‘bad’ propaganda to confuse Ghanaians in his desperation to unseat the NDC in 2012.
The flagbearer of the NPP on Wednesday accused the Mills-led administration of gross incompetence, and accused it of only finding solace in contracting huge loans to the detriment of the country.
Nana Addo Addo noted that the $3 billion loan approved by Parliament has increased the debt stock of the country horrendously hence if care is not taken, Ghana risk slipping back to a Highly Indebted Poor country (HIPC).
However, on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Richard Quashiga stressed that the NDC feel scandalized because Nana Akufo-Addo was not sincere with the facts in relation to the debt profile of the country.
According to him, the $3 billion loan facility is not available in government coffers therefore for Nana Akufo-Addo, given his pedigree, to question the whereabouts of the money was mischievous.
Richard Quashigah said the NPP flagbearer quizzed government over the availability of the loan facility during his delivery just to play on the emotions of Ghanaians for his own parochial interest.
He stated that for a presidential hopeful like Nana Akufo-Addo to make such an "illogical statement" is rather unfortunate because “ he know too well that even there are times that a loan can be approved but at the end of the day something could have [happened that] at the end of day the whole [loan]would amount to nothing”.
Richard Quashigah noted that Nana Akufo-Addo as leader of the largest opposition party in the country has resorted to bad propaganda just to win votes adding that the NDC’s will continue with its positive propaganda to enhance the image of the government.
Richard Quashigah said Ghana has a balance sheet which makes it attractive to creditors in the international community because of the able leadership of President John Evans Atta Mills.
Contrary to allegations by the NPP that the loan facility being contracted by the government is for ‘chop chop’, the NDC propaganda secretary explained that, the money would be used for infrastructural developments in the productive sectors of the economy.
The National Propaganda Secretary of the NDC observed that the able leadership, God fearing, and honest nature of President J.E.A Mills have boosted the confidence the international community has in Ghana.
Richard Quarshigah revealed that NDC would come out with an official statement to address adeptly the issues raised by Nana Akufo-Addo.
