Ghana’s contingent at the All Africa Games are reportedly stranded ahead of the start of the multi-sport event in Maputo Mozambique, Saturday.
Ghana’s female football team, the Black Princesses and their male colleagues, the Black Meteors are reportedly experiencing major difficulties with accommodation due to the inability of officials to secure accreditation for the contingent.
The footballers and their officials totaling 54 are currently keeping up in a limited number of rooms at the Games village.
Speaking to host Ernest Koranteng on the JOY Sports Link on Saturday, the Games correspondent Tony Bebli attributed the difficult challenges the athletes are enduring to the failure by officials to pay the participation fee.
He confirmed that only journalists from the Multimedia Group have managed to secure accreditation for the coverage of the competition.
He said, “In terms of organization, however, I must congratulate the Mozambicans because the facilities are up to standard. Kudos to the authorities in Mozambique for the magnificent edifice they have put up for the Games.”
Ghana is expected to participate in 16 sporting disciplines at the 15-day event.
Ghana amassed 24 medals at the Abuja 2003 Games and picked up 23 medals at the last edition of the games in Algeria in 2007.
But given the circumstances, Bebli is doubtful if the athletes could win laurels for the country.
