Founder of the United Renaissance Party (URP) Kofi Wayo is calling for the immediate resignation of the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo as flagbearer of the party.According to Mr. Wayo, there are too many incriminating evidence against Nana Akufo-Addo on allegations he uses drugs hence not fit to lead a party that could win an election to govern the country in the future.International whistle blower website, wikileaks, in its recent cable leaks from the US Embassy in Accra, quoted the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwasi Pratt as saying Nana used to smoke a lot of marijuana. But Kwesi Pratt who said he was shocked at the revelation, stated emphatically that he does not remember branding Nana Akufo-Addo as a marijuana smoker.Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Kofi Wayo noted that the latest cable about Nana Akufo-Addo corroborates his claims that he is indeed a drug addict. He insisted that the NPP flagbearer should go for a blood test to clear himself of the drug tag which has become an albatross on his neck.Kofi Wayo asked Nana Akufo-Addo to ponder over the reason why among all the presidential candidates in the 2008 elections, he was the only one suspected of indulging in illicit drugs.Meanwhile, a political science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kwasi Amakye Boateng, disagreed with Kofi Wayo.He stated that Mr. Wayo is just basing his argument on rumours and his submissions should be treated with the contempt it deserves.Mr. Amakye Boateng observed that until Kofi Wayo provides evidence to prove that Nana Akufo-Addo indeed uses narcotics; his call must be thrown out.
