Six prominent personalities in the Convention People’s Party (CPP), have endorsed the chairmanship aspirations of Samia Yaba Nkrumah, MP for Jomoro and daughter of Ghana's first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Prof. Francis Nkrumah, Prof. E.A. Afari, Prof. Fred Binka, Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa, Prof. Kwame Botwe-Asamoah and Prof. Ama Ohene, have in a statement urged delegates to the party’s congress this weekend to vote massively for Samia to revive, revitalize and also to rejuvenate the CPP.
The group said they want the party to connect to its traditional voters and maintain its valued ideological principles in providing equal opportunity and social justice for the people of Ghana.
Stressing the CPP’s need to work to unite the Nkrumaist family and present a united front, the group said a united CPP should bring back into its fold “splinter groups, the many who have sat on the fence waiting for the revivalism, the many who were young pioneers, workers' brigade and of the other affiliate organizations, and yet still, the many who did not return to the fold after the failed alliances of the past.
“Thus the Party requires a fresh, bold and imaginative leader to lead the progressive change and it is our conviction that SAMIA YABA NKRUMAH offers the best prospect for that transformation as Chairman of the Party.”
While calling on delegates to vote massively for Samia, the six, per a statement signed by all, recommended “Let us give her a strong mandate to begin the radical progressive transformation the Party badly needs. A win in all the 10 regions shall send a strong signal that we are ready and prepared to work for the transformation of the Party.”
They said Ghana deserves better and that only the CPP can provide that.
