The dismissed Coordinator of the National Youth Council, Dr Sekou Nkrumah has suggested to the Convention Peoples Party to focus on building a working relationship with the NDC to strengthen the party.
He stressed that the CPP needs to focus on winning parliamentary seats as a way to rebuilding the party.
Making his first comments on the recent NDC congress, he hinted that the Mills administration will have to face a stiffer test in 2012 because the government has done poorly to convince the people.
Touching on the decision by former President Rawlings not to campaign for the NDC in 2012, Dr. Nkrumah said the former President may decide not to campaign for President Mills but rather will focus his attention on campaigning for the parliamentary candidates of the party.
Asked why he never joined the party his father formed, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah said that he had “never taken his father as a ‘father’ because he was more interested in the achievement of the African Continent rather than playing a specific role at home”, he emphasized.
He said there was no personal relationship between him and his father.
Wikileaks
He believes the Wikileaks revelations will not affect the NDC’s chances in the 2012 elections.
Commenting on the allegation that the NPP’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo smoked marujuana, Sekou Nkrumah said great personalities such as Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have admitted to taking hard substances at some points in their life, hence smoked marijuana before is not a big deal.
He stated that it does not matter if Nana Addo uses drugs but the important thing is “if Nana Addo can bring a dynamic and radical leadership”.
Dr Nkrumah stated that since there is no evidence on the ‘gossips’ from Wikileaks, the information released in the cables should be ignored.
