Managing editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, says he is happy that Samia Nkrumah has taken the lead role in her father’s party and urged all supporters of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), to help her restructure and grow the party.Samia Yaba Nkrumah was over the weekend elected as the chairperson of the CPP, polling 1,151 votes to beat three other contestants.Being the first woman to lead a political party in the country, Samia faces serious challenges, especially in uniting her party, nurturing and growing its structures as well as having proper representation in parliament.But Mr Pratt says though the work may be very tough, Samia would succeed with the unflinching support of others in the party if only those people do not allow personal interests and divisiveness to get the better of them.He was contributing to discussions on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Tuesday.According to the editor - also a member of the CPP but accused of flirting with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) - success might delay since the party is still struggling to have a fair representation in parliament and to improve on the percentage of votes they poll during elections. Nevertheless, he was hopeful that with unity and hard work the CPP would be able to rub shoulders with other political parties in the country.
