Dr. Sekou Nkrumah has stated that his reason for quitting the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is the failure by the leadership of the party to improve the lives of Ghanaians better than they came to inherit. According to Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, the Atta Mills administration is not making enough dynamic moves to change the lives of Ghanaians and has also deviated from the party’s Social democratic agenda, thereby giving enough ammunition to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2012 elections. Sekou, who broke his resignation on Joy FM Tuesday morning,claimed developments within the party pushed him to support Samia's ambition to rebuild the party founded by their father. Samia was was elected chairperson of the CPP over the weekend at. Sekou therefore maintained that his continuous stay in the NDC would be an obstacle to the ambition of his sister. He said on Adom Fm’s Dwaso Nsem that his main objective to join the NDC prior to the 2008 elections was to help change the fortunes of Ghanaians, but this dream seems to be far from being achieved, with the current leadership of the party. He added, during the presidential primary in July this year, he campaigned for a change in leadership, but the party re-elected Prof Atta Mills to lead the party for a second term, “so when you combine that with developments in the CPP, I think I need to resign as NDC member”. Meanwhile, the Propaganda Secretary for the National Democratic Congress, Richard Quashigah in a reaction noted that Dr. Nkrumah’s line of thinking may be different from what the party holds. Richard Quashigah described as unfortunate, comments by Dr. Nkrumah to the extent that the NDC government is performing poorly. He argued that the NDC government is doing well.
