The Founder of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP), Thomas Nuako Ward-Brew, says the failure of thirteen political parties to submit their audited reports to the Electoral Commission (EC) is enough evidence that they are not fit to rule the nation.Mr. Ward-Brew, who is also the Chairman of the DPP, says if a party is elected into power, the whole nation’s money is vested into the party and the people expect the party to be accountable and so if they fail to submit an audited report of their own party to the EC, how much more for that of the nation.Commenting on the EC’s publication that DPP is the only political party in the country that has submitted its audit report, Mr. Ward-Brew, explained that as a party that wants to rule the nation, accountability and records keeping are important to the development of the nations which must not be taken for granted. He said the nation spends several millions of cedis and valuable time on politics and so if the parties are not accountable to the people, they do not deserve to rule the nation.Mr. Ward-Brew therefore called on the political parties to set good examples to the younger generation instead of violating the laws of this country. The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, told Asempa News the inability of the NPP to present its audit reports from 2008 to 2010 to the EC was due to the change of leadership in the party. The General Secretary who is also know as “Sir John” promised that the party will make available its audit reports to the EC from Monday September 19, 2011.Sir John said the audit reports from from 2008 to 2010 are all ready but he needed to go through them as a new General Secretary before the party could send them. The General Secretary assured “Asempa Today” that he had contacted all the past executives to make sure the audits are intact. The National Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan, disclosed that the NDC as a party will appoint someone at the Headquarters who will be in charge of auditing to avoid being tagged as flouting the laws of this nation. He however urged the EC to constantly remind the political parties of this issue since the parties have a lot to do.
