"I will contribute my quota to the success of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) from wherever I stand and give Samia my fullest support as she takes the lead role in growing the party," Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper has pledged. Kweku Baako, who has already indicated he would vote and campaign for the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said he is also prepared to support the new leadership of the CPP in areas such as media campaign, publicity campaign, logistics and connecting them to the appropriate sources even though he believes the party should not contest presidential elections now. Samia Yaba Nkrumah was elected the chairperson of the CPP last weekend, becoming the first female to lead a political party in the country. She has insisted the CPP will not merge with any political party under her leadership. Nevertheless, Kweku Baako thinks it would be better if the CPP concentrates on growing itself through parliament, focusing on “constituencies we have a potential to win and invest our efforts and logistics there.” Mr Baako was speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Wednesday. “Looking at the balance of forces today,” he observed, and the strength of the CPP, coupled with the “fragmentation of the great Nkrumaist family, I arrived at a realistic proposition that [we should go through the parliamentary route].” Malik Baako promised he would not stand in the way of the CPP if they want to run a presidential race but maintained he was not going to be part of such an agenda because he does not believe in it. He said he would rather focus on mobilising logistics and funding for particular constituencies the CPP, per his assessment, has potential to win. “I will still do that as a dedicated CPP member and I will leave those who think we need to run the presidency (to pursue that). “Power is sweet… but one must always have the right capacity to acquire the power through democratic elections,” Mr Baako noted. He added: “(All these) I am prepared to do and I will do. The only area I obviously have a problem with is the presidential.”
