Heptathlete Margaret Simpson won the Heptathlon event on Wednesday afternoon in the ongoing All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique to raise Ghana’s gold tally to three.
Simpson maintained her dominance in the Heptathlon event at the All Africa Games, an event she has won since the 2003 Abuja games.
She came into the competition after failing to deliver at the World Athletics Championship in Daegu where she placed 11th. However she was able to work around the clock to give Ghana her third gold.
She told Asempa Sports that she was very happy to have won Ghana a third gold after all the difficulties they had been through.
Paralympics athlete Ajara Mohammed had earlier given Ghana two gold medals in the 1500m and 400m event. Ghana currently has a total of 11 medals to her credit and is hoping for more medals before the games end.
Elsewhere UK based Timothy Abeyie qualified for the 200m final to be ran later on Thursday. Abeyie who finished miles ahead of his competitors in the semifinal is hoping to replicate his performance in the final to win Ghana a medal.
An elated Abeyie told Asempa Sports that he felt comfortable running the 200m race since it is his comfort zone.
His qualification for the final means it will be the second time Abeyie will be running in a final of an individual event at the games. He qualified for the 100m final but failed to perform.
