Ghanaian sprinter, Aziz Zakari has debunked rumours that he is retiring after the 2011 All Africa Games.
Aziz Zakari helped the Men’s relay team to win silver on Tuesday afternoon in Maputo and believes he has a lot “running life” in him for the next few years.
Zakari who spoke with Gideon Okyere Anim. Asempa Fm’s correspondent at the games said he still has a lot of energy to burn. When asked if he was retiring after the Games, Zakari said no but was rather thinking about how to do well in the London 2012 Olympics.
According to Zakari he believes the rumours going around is as a result of an interview he granted. He said people misconstrued what he said in the interview when he meant he was retiring after the All Africa games.
He explained that the All Africa Games is a four year event and believes he does not have the strength to help him to compete effectively in the 2015 event. And so what he meant was that the 2011 event was his last All Africa Games but not his retiring competition.
He further stated that, there was the need for him to pass on the experience he has had over the years to the upcoming ones.
Aziz Zakari is a multiple Gold medalist at the All Africa games but has not won any at the ongoing games in Maputo.
