Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper has rubbished calls for Parliamentary investigation into the controversial US diplomatic cables by the wikileaks website.
Malik Kweku Baako Jnr. insists the call is “not sustainable” and an “exercise in futility”.
The Minority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu had backed calls for Parliamentary scrutiny into the damnable wikileaks publications.
He said the revelations in wikileaks are not good for the country and any move to look into the disclosures should be supported by Parliament.
But speaking on Multi-TV and Joy FM’s news analysis programme Newsfile the New Crusading Guide Newspaper Chief Editor said the revelations in the wikileaks publication have been “overrated.”
Malik Baako said for any thorough investigation to be conducted, the United States and its Embassy in Ghana have to be contacted.
He doubted, in fact mocked at the possibility of having the US assist with investigations into the contents of the leaked cables.
“It will be naivety of the highest order that the US Embassy or government will assist in investigating this issue,” he said, adding, it is only a “political neophyte” who will believe an investigation of sorts with the collaborative effort of the US can happen.
“What is Parliament going to investigate,” he quizzed, saying, even on the damnable remarks made about the Speaker of Parliament, Joyce Bamford Addo and attributed to the Trades Minister Hannah Tetteh in the wikileaks there is total silence on it.
He regretted what he said were selective citation and application of the leaks which if anything is only an insult to the intelligence of Ghanaians.
Panel members on the Newsfile programme shared most of the views elaborated by Mr. Baako.
Deputy Education Minister Mahama Ayariga said the US per the diplomatic immunity will not even be part of any investigation should the Ghana Parliament seek to conduct one.
