One person sustained gunshot wounds after some military officers fired several warning shots following a confrontation between residents of Asesensu in the Wassa Amenfi East District and workers of a Chinese miner Wednesday.
Eight others were also detained by the Sefwi-Bekwai police in connection with the fracas.

Anger flared up when section of the youth demanded a Chinese miner transporting excavator, pay a token before he is allowed to use a bridge in the town.
It was to support maintenance of the bridge constructed through communal labour.
The demand by the youth who had mounted a barrier angered the mine workers who fired several shots to disperse them.
A Pump Action gun in their possession was seized and handed over to elders of the community in the ensuing confrontation.
The military, however arrived some minutes later after being called in allegedly by the Chinese miner and fired several warning shots, one of them hitting the ankle of 32-year old Yaw Nkrumah.
He was later treated and discharged by the Dunkwaw Government Hospital after being referred by the Diaso Health Center.

Asesensu Abusuapanin together with the Chairman of the Unit Committee, Abdul Razak handed over the gun seized by the youth to the Sefwi-Bekwai police.
He said residents have been forced to flee from the town.
His fear was confirmed by residents, who for fear of being harassed by the military, kept vigil throughout Wednesday night.
As at the time the news team was leaving the community at about 2 a.m, residents, including school kids were still loitering around.
