Another deadline for the deactivation of unregistered mobile SIM cards is once again approaching after a June 30 deadline was extended by three months.
Barring any changes, all unregistered SIM will cease to function by September 30 which is just about a week away.
The National Communications Authority says the registration has become necessary so they could ensure that subscribers who indulge in criminal acts with their phones can be identified.
The NCA is yet to make any public statement about the approaching deadline but some mobile subscribers who spoke to Joy News said they took advantage of the extension.
The registration agents also confirmed some few subscribers were registered during the period.
Head of the Public Affairs at the NCA said they are so far satisfied with the quantum of subscribers registered so far.
Mawuko Zormelo will not however put a percentage figure on the number registered so far and will not also state whether or not the deadline will be extended.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, Kwaku Sakyi-Addo says the telecommunication companies will accept whatever decision the NCA arrives at.
