The Central Region Propaganda Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Allotey Jacobs says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will remain in opposition for a very long time if the party does not mend its abrasive ways.
According to him what kept the United Party (UP) tradition in opposition for a longer period will also keep the NPP in opposition till they learn their lessons.
Allotey Jacobs was contributing to a panel discussion on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday, on delays in compiling the Biometric voters’ register for the 2012 general elections.
He alleged that the NPP is repeating mistakes committed by the UP tradition which gave birth to the NPP and “if they do not mend their ways as war mongers, the NPP will be in opposition like what happened to the UP which spent thirty (30) years in opposition”.
He mentioned for instance the popular ‘All Die be Die’ slogan by the presidential candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo and the subsequent justification of the slogan by party faithful saying, these attest to the fact that the NPP is a violent party and abhors peace.
Allotey Jacobs advised the NPP to exercise restraint and give the Electoral Commission (EC) ample time to start the Biometric voter registration.
"We should have confidence in the EC because they have been neutral and have organised successful elections over the years," Allotey Jacobs said.
He however admitted that, there have been lapses in the operations of the EC and therefore called on Ghanaians to give the EC the chance to do the right thing for Ghanaians.
A member of the NPP Communications team Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus-Glover refuted Allotey Jacobs' claim and said the NPP was a peace-loving party.
Titus Glover accused the EC of poor organisation of elections in recent times and called on the Commission to live up to its responsibilities.
