The Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Mr Kofi Adams says media reports suggesting former president Rawlings will soon defect to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) should be treated with contempt.Kofi Adams says there is no iota of truth in the publication and that it is just “a hearsay story based on circumstantial issues”.The Al-Hajj newspaper in its Tuesday 27th September 2011 edition published a story to the effect that the founder of ruling NDC, ex-president J.J. Rawlings may defect to the opposition NPP together with his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. But speaking on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM on Tuesday, Kofi Adams noted that this unsubstantiated story in the news stands makes the country a laughing stock saying “there is no credibility in the story”.However, Editor of the newspaper Alhaji Bature Idrissu claimed one of the close pals of the Rawlingses from Ashanti region, Brogyaa Gyamfi gave the hint on a radio station in Accra that former President Rawlings has planned to defect to the NPP.Alhaji Bature also argued that former president Rawlings’ presence at ex-president Kufuor’s foundation launch attests to the fact that it is possible that Mr Rawlings will join the NPP.He also claimed that Dr. Sekou Nkrumah’s recent endorsement of Nana Akufo-Addo was not an accident, but by the handy work of former president Rawlings.Alhaji Bature continued that comments by Mr. Rawlings that the NDC government is in “purgatory” and also his pronouncement that he (Rawlings) will not campaign for President Atta Mills, is an indication that former president Rawlings will leave the NDC and join the NPP.He disclosed that Mr. Rawlings is expected to make his intentions to join the NPP known in the Volta region very soon.
