The Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Mr George Smith-Graham, has indicated that the purpose for implementing the Single Spine Salaries Structure (SSSS) is not to collapse Ghana’s economy.He said the government and the FWSC are willing to enhance the livelihoods of people through improved but sustainable wages and salaries.The implementation of the SSSS has seen some government workers migrated onto the new pay structure, while others yet are awaiting their turn. Others yet have resorted to industrial action to register what they say are unjust delays in their migration.Currently, some doctors and nurses are on strike, angry with Mr Graham and his office whom they accuse of meddling in politics and feeding the public with untruths. They also charge him of using propaganda to whip up public sentiments against doctors.However, the FWSC boss who spoke on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show Monday, explained that the doctors are making demands that are too costly and unsustainable.He said though he is not a finance minister, he is aware of the fact that government would find it difficult to meet and sustain the demands by the striking doctors.Mr Smith-Graham, nonetheless, assured the citizenry that the FWSC will continue engaging doctors to ensure amicable resolution of the problem.
