Skipper of the Black Stars, John Mensah has indicated the readiness of the team for the Cup of Nations.Ghana defeated Sudan last Saturday in Omdurman to qualify as Group 9 winners but other high profile countries faltered. The skipper who scored his first goal in a competitive game could not hide his happiness after the qualification. In an interview on Asempa Fm’s Sports Morning Show on Monday, he said the credit for the qualification should not be given to a single individual but to the entire team as well as Ghanaians. He admitted that the road to Equatorial Guinea and Gabon was not an easy one although the commitment of the players made it look easy. When asked if the absence of other super powers like Egypt, Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa could hand over the 2012 AFCON trophy to them on silver platter, he said it was too early to be talking about it.He was however quick to add that with or without those countries, the objective of the team will not change and the objective of winning Ghana’s fifth cup of Nations remains unchanged. In a related issue, the skipper also told Asempa Sports that the team is attaching all the seriousness to the international friendly match against Nigeria deserves.According to him the bragging rights as well as the team’s ranking on Fifa is important so they will be going all out for a win against the Nigerians. The Stars after dispatching their Sudanese counterparts touched down in London on Sunday ahead of their game with Nigeria on Tuesday at the Vicarage Road grounds in Watford.
