The Seventh-Day Adventist Nurses’ Training College in Kumasi could collapse if acute infrastructural deficit at the school is not addressed.Officials say the most critical of the school’s needs include classroom accommodation, a hostel, library and computer laboratory.College Principal, Daniel Attah-Tuffuor, told Nhyira News the situation needs prompt attention because it puts students at a disadvantage.The college was established in 2005 by the SDA church with assistance from government.It has so far trained 405 nurses who are serving in both public and mission hospitals.It is located on a small portion of the Kwadaso SDA Church land. Currently over 600 students are compelled to use a small library originally meant for only 70 people.Authorities rent private accommodation for students who complain about poor security.Just about half of 487 qualified applicants were admitted this year due to lack of space.Mr. Attah-Tuffuor said the church has donated 25 acres of land at Barekese for expansion, but funding remains a challenge.The expansion will enable the school introduce Midwifery programs to train more nurses and midwives to help reduce high maternal deaths.“Any help is neither big nor small in terms of money, books, computers, etc but we need them urgently and not in the future."
