The Former Ashanti Region Chairman for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Frank Osei Mensah has advised that traditional leaders should be accorded the necessary respect and reverence because they play a vital role in the nation’s developmental agenda.
According to Mr. Osei Mensah, Chieftaincy institution is backed by the constitution and gives them mandate to adjudicate local cases and therefore it is not proper for any individual to disrupt the process of Chieftaincy meeting.
Mr. Osei Mensah said this on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Thursday in reaction to an allegation by Jacob Osei Yeboah that Asantehene’s bodyguards have assaulted him at the Manhyia Palace.
Jacob Osei Yeboah alleged that Otumfuor Osei Tutu’s bodyguards had assaulted him in his attempt to inform the Manhyia Palace of his bereavement.
The former Ashanti Region NDC Chairman said, informing the Manhyia Palace of bereavement does not warrant an assault, adding the complainant may have caused a stir at the palace hence his predicaments.
Mr. Osei Mensah asserted that in recent times respect accorded Chiefs have been erased by some disrespectful individuals and this is the reason why some people can castigate chiefs and go scot free.
He recounted that some years gone by; people who were disrespectful to Chiefs were made to pay the ultimate price with their lives and as a result people used to hold their traditional leaders with high esteem.
Mr. Osei Mensah therefore advised that it is time people respect and honour Traditional leaders.
