Former Upper East Regional Minister Boniface Gambila is likely to spend the night at the premises of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
He was invited for questioning by the investigative body on Thursday morning and has yet to be released.
His brother Karim Haruna confirmed the detention of the former Regional Minister alleging he (Gambila) was initially prevented from seeing his lawyers.
He is under investigations for alleged financial malfeasance during his period as head of the National Service Scheme, his lawyers claimed.
Haruna claimed officials of the BNI had strict instructions from superiors not to allow his brother to be released until investigations were completed.
In a subsequent interview to Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh, Karim Haruna said lawyers were later allowed to have access to his brother.
Information he gleaned from the lawyers indicates Boniface Gambila would be detained over night
"They told him it is not something that they are going to release him," he said
