The Western Regional branch of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) has asked its members to start wearing red arm bands from Friday November 25, to press home their demand for immediate implementation of top up allowances. At a news conference on Thursday, the regional leadership expressed disappointment about what they say is an insignificant increase in their salaries after their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure. The Regional Chairman of CLOGSAG, Daniel Quayson, said members are disappointed about the belief that the SSSS would significantly improve their conditions as most of them after receiving their pay packets did not see much variation in their salary levels. They are thus calling on the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to salvage the situation by quickly working out the top up allowances as agreed upon with the leadership CLOGSAG. “CLOGSAG Western Region is not demanding anything extraordinary. We are talking of implementation of top up. Fair Wages agreed with CLOGSAG in principle that they will implement the top up which has been given to other institutions. Some had 33 and 30% so we are also demanding that the top up should be given to our members because some of them didn’t get anything at all. "The philosophy behind the top up is to cushion them to mitigate against the insignificant upwards variations in salaries that they had. Even the two months’ arrears is nothing to write home about so this top up will cushion them” Mr. Quayson said. He further called on the leadership of National CLOGSAG “to be steadfast and resolute and not be intimidated by the communist inferior tactics employed by the Executive Secretary of the Fair Wages Commission.” To this end, he reiterated their call for the removal of Mr. Smith Graham, and also called for the immediate migration of some of their members who were left out. “There are some of our members who have not been migrated. They are from the Survey Department, Lands Commission, Internal Agency staff, and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department. “All these institutions have not been migrated onto the Single Spine. The value of a thousand cedis today is not the value tomorrow. So when are they putting these institutions on the single spine? We are calling on the government by wearing red bands to press homed our intentions. We are only asking for what is due us” he insisted.
