Two people have been confirmed dead in yet another galamsey disaster at Kenyasi in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Kenyasi District Police Commander DSP Michael Ofosu Anim confirmed the deaths in an interview with Joy News Wednesday.
Three others are on admission at the St. Elizabeth Hospital at Hwidiem in the Asutifi District of Brong Ahafo after sustaining various degrees of injuries, he confirmed.
According to him the illegal gold miners sneaked into the pit on a day considered a taboo for any form of mining.
He explained that the pit collapsed on the miners as they attempted to pick mineral-endowed stones.
He was not sure how many miners were trapped in the pit, except to say three were rescued and rushed to the hospital, while the lifeless bodies of two others were removed from the collapsed pit.
