A Nigerian woman who allegedly attempted to traffic three young women to Cote d'Ivoire for prostitution, has been arrested at the Elubo border in the Western Region.
The Ghana News Agency reports that the woman, Madam Mercy Onomiyi, had lured the three girls from Nigeria on their way to Cote d'Ivoire.
Mercy and the three women, Gloria Okoe, 24 , from Edo State, Blessing Atonie, 19, and Joy Osato Osazuma, 20, both from Benin State, have been sent to the Ghana Immigration Service headquarters in Accra for further investigation.
Mr Ernest Kpogo, an official of the Anti Human Trafficking Desk at the Elubo made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Elubo on Saturday.
According to him, on December 1, Onorniyi arrived at the Ghana Immigration departure hall at Elubo with the women and while going through departure formalities; it became clear that Onomiyi for some strange reasons, was trafficking the ladies to Cote d'Ivoire. She was therefore referred to the Anti-Human Trafficking Desk for further investigations.
Mr. Kpogo said the women told the authorities that Onomiyi had assured them in Nigeria of employment in Cote d'Ivoire, but after crossing the Cotonou border, she told them that they were going to practice prostitution.
He said the women protested vehemently by attempting to alight from the bus on reaching the Aflao border, but the bus operator did not allow them to do so and on their arrival at the Elubo border, they reported their predicament to the immigration officials.
