The capital of the Golden Kingdom of Asante went agog last Saturday, as youth groups took the city by storm with the fourth edition of Nhyira FM’s Keep-fit and Fun Clubs’ Games.
The annual jumbo social and sporting event brings together youth and other social clubs on one platform to engage in healthy competition to keep fit, amid drumming and dancing.
And as expected, the traditional venue, the Ridge Park at Danyame, recorded one of the biggest crowds at a single event in recent times.
Over 90 social and fun clubs across the region and beyond competed in 5-a-side football, 50 meter-dash, volleyball, weight-lifting, table tennis, among others, laced in cheer singing, popularly known as ‘jama’.
Participants joined a clean-up by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly; as they embarked on fitness walk to usher in the Fan Club Games.
The aerobic session went with the new and trendy sensational “Azonto” dance, especially among female.
Excitement reached roof-top in the evening when the country’s two most popular Hip-life icons, Castro and Slim Buster mounted the stage.
‘Odo Keep Fit Fan Club’ of Abrepo in Kumasi was crowned overall champions for 2011 Club for the Year, with ‘Apostles Club’ of Anloga, also in Kumasi, as first runners-up.
Winners and participating clubs went home with attractive prizes from sponsors and certificates of participation from Nhyira FM. Visit our photo galleries for photos from the event.
Programmes Manager of Nhyira FM, Kwabena Ampong, promises even bigger treat in the years ahead for both participants and supporting partners.
