Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the foremost waste management company in the country, received eight awards from various organizations for its immense efforts towards environmental sanitation and entrepreneurship in Ghana in 2011.Among the awards bestowed on the company included the conferment of an honorary Doctorate Degree in Literature by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Chief Executive Officer of Jospong Group of Companies, of which Zoomlion is a subsidiary.He was also adjudged a finalist in the Master’s Category of the recent Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the year awards.The company was also honoured with the Organisation of the Year award by the Young Professionals and Youth Coalition Initiative (YPYCI).Other awards were the Most Marketing Oriented Company for 2010, awarded by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), and Best Entrepreneur in Environment and Sanitation for 2010, awarded by the Entrepreneur Foundation of Ghana.The Times of Africa Excellence Awards also honoured Zoomlion for its leadership in waste management service, while the Customer Service Awards Foundation also honoured the company for its leadership in customer service in Ghana.The Tema Achievers Excellence Foundation honoured Zoomlion for its immense contribution towards environmental sanitation in the country.Unveiling the honours conferred on the company to the public during Zoomlion’s annual thanksgiving service held at its head office at Ashalley Botwe, a suburb of Accra, General Manager of the company, Florence Larbi, observed that the awards conferred on the company were as a result of hard work.She however noted that despite the feat chalked by the company, it would not rest on its oars as there was still more the company could do in solving the country’s sanitation problem.“A great work awaits us as every Ghanaian is looking up to us to continue with our good works,” she said.Dr. Agyepong, in his goodwill message, expressed his profound gratitude to God Almighty for his mercies and favour throughout the year.He also thanked all the stakeholders of Zoomlion for their excellent collaboration and support in the year 2011.“I wish to thank all the people of Ghana, especially our clients, bankers and the media, without whose support Zoomlion would not have come this far,” he stated.Dr. Agyepong further indicated that the year 2011 would be remembered as an unforgettable one in the annals of Zoomlion as it saw the company soaring high on the international font.“We moved our expansion drive into a higher gear, where positive inroads have been made into countries such as Zambia, Liberia and Equatorial Guinea,” Dr. Agyepong noted.The CEO expressed his appreciation to his staff and management as he urged them to embrace the New Year with new ideas, higher levels of commitment and loyalty.The Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, who graced the occasion, took the opportunity to advise the public to be mindful of the way they dispose of waste during the festive season.“I urge all citizens to keep the environment clean; don’t litter about and use gutters as rubbish bins,” he said.The Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Nana Oduro Quarteng, who represented the minister, pointed out that government would continue to collaborate and work with the private sector as it created the enabling environment for entrepreneurial development and employment.He also reiterated the earlier view of the mayor of Accra, as he advised citizens to be careful during the festive season.Zoomlion later commission its new restaurant facility also located at the head office.
