A 48 year old mason who defiled a seven year old girl has told a Circuit Court at Nsuta he is impotent and therefore could not have committed the offence.
The judge, Justice Kofi Akuffo, however sentenced Kofi Oteng to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour despite his plea for clemency.
Police Inspector Nana Boamah told the court that in March this year, the convict took advantage of the victim after inviting her to watch TV in his room.
The girl’s younger brother suddenly budged into the room to witness the act.
He led his sister to narrate her ordeal to their mother, who subsequently reported the matter to the police.
Police say medical examination confirmed the crime for which Oteng was charged.
Justice Akuffo told the packed audience the recent wave of sexual abuse against children is an indictment on the conscience of Ghanaians.
