Fredrick Zewu, a Metro Mass Transport bus driver, has been sentenced to a total fine of GH¢540 by the Akim Oda Magistrate Court for failing to carry a driver's license and fasten his seat belt.The Court, presided over by Mr. Albert Owusu Annor, admitted Zewu to a 500 Ghana Cedis bail, to enable him to produce his license on December 19 or face trial.The convict pleaded guilty to three counts of causing road obstruction, causing danger to other road users and failing to fasten seat belt and was fined 120 Ghana Cedis, 300 Ghana Cedis and 120 Ghana Cedis respectively, to run consecutively. He however pleaded not guilty to the fourth count of failing to carry driver's license.Failure to pay the fine, Zewu would go to prison for 16 months in hard labour.
Detective Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the Ghana News Agency that on October 20, 2011 at about 07:00 hours personnel of the Oda Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) conducted motor checks on the Akim Oda – Aboabo road.Detective Inspector Appiah stated that Zewu who was then driving a Metro Mass Transport bus with registration number GR 2007 U was intercepted and checked.It was detected that he had committed various traffic offences and was therefore, processed to appear before court at Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality.
