Mr. Issah A. Nasagri, the Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), on Thursday said investigations have revealed that young girls are constantly recruited from the Jaman North and Tain districts to engage in prostitution in Europe. He disclosed this at a regional multi–sectoral child protection committee meeting in Sunyani. The meeting brought together stakeholders from child-related institutions and the media to deliberate on issues affecting children and to find lasting solutions to them.Mr. Nasagri said the recruitment was done by some female citizens of the region resident in Europe who come down to the country to secure passports for the young girls, some of whom are relatives and send them to Europe for sex trade. The NCCE Regional Manager called on the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to investigate and check the backgrounds of people who come to the office with young girls to demand for passports before issuing to them to save the young girls from the menace.Mr Nasagri asked parents to be responsible and seek the welfare and protection of their children so that they do not grow to become a burden on society.Mr. George Yaw Ankamah, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the Department of Children, appealed to the representatives at the meeting to sensitize the public on issues affecting children, especially the vulnerable ones and come out with approaches for the development of children.
