The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has began its investigations into the circumstances surrounding the mysterious swap of cocaine to sodium bicarbonate.
The investigations come shortly after a committee set up by the Chief Justice to look into the same controversy completed its public hearing.
Whilst waiting for the committee to come out with its findings, witnesses who appeared at the public hearing have confirmed to Joy News’ Editor, Samson Lardy Ayenini, that they have received letters from the BNI requiring them to appear before it for criminal investigations.
The Vice president, John Mahama, ordered the criminal investigations into the matter in order to take punitive action against officials found to be culpable in the mysterious swap of the narcotic drug.
Lawyer for the Circuit Court Judge told Lardy Ayenini his client will submit himself to the BNI but will do so cautiously.
He said if they realize it will be a duplication of efforts, they will make available to the BNI, a copy of their responses to the CJ’s committee.
George Asamani, lawyer for the court clerk who has also been cited in the mysterious swap, said they will appear before the BNI knowing too well they have nothing to hide.
He found it rather amazing that the police, having kept the controversial substance for over three years, will turn around and accuse his client for tempering with the content barely 24 hours after the substance was handed over to the court.
He expected however, that the CJ’s committee will make serious findings that will transform, in no small way, administrations in the police as well as the court processes.
