The Ghana Tourism Authority is collaborating with the police and other security agencies to ensure safety at the beaches on Boxing Day.
A special taskforce will be deployed to all the popular beaches to ensure beachfront owners and revelers adhere to safety regulations.
Festive occasions like Boxing Day today, are associated with overcrowding at beaches often resulting in stampede and drowning.
During the Easter festivities this year, nine revelers died. Three including two young siblings, were caught up in a stampede at the Labadi Pleasure Beach.
Two others who were rescued from drowning at the Bola Beach behind the Independence Square and the Arts Centre Beach also died on admission at the Ridge Hospital.
Four other bodies were washed ashore the Kokrobite beach. Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Tourist Authority, Ben Ohene Ayeh told Joy News the taskforce will be strict.
“We have drawn a special programme with the police taskforce under the supervision of the Chief Superintendent Yakubu,” he said, adding policemen will be deployed to all the beach centres in the country.
Mr. Ayeh also advised hotel and restaurant operators to step up security especially at swimming pools.
