Babies born on Christmas day have been welcomed in style and presented with special packages from mobile telecommunication giant, MTN Ghana. Twenty-two new babies were delivered yesterday at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. Five of them were through a caesarian whilst the others were born through normal delivery. Officials of MTN presented hampers to the new born babies and their mothers at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the hospital. The presentation forms part of MTN’s corporate social responsibility program to reach out to subscribers and families in celebrating the coincidence of their new birth with that of Jesus Christ. Three set of twins who were delivered on December 24 were also given special hampers. Nurse Manager at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Cynthia Bruce-Smith commended MTN for reaching out to the hospital in a unique way at Christmas. “To the mothers, it’s something to boost their morale because they think MTN has thought of them”. She implored other corporate entities to support the hospital through donations. “They (mothers) have something that may be some of them couldn’t buy”. Northern Sector Corporate Coordinator of MTN, Isaac Vroom Minnow tells Nhyira News: “MTN believes that we need to share in the season…It's been a wonderful season, we need to celebrate it with some sector of society and the best place to do this is at the hospital with new born”. MTN also made similar presentations at the Korle Bu and Effia-Nkwanta hospitals in Accra and Takoradi respectively. In Tamale, Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ken Sagoe tells Joy News 15 babies were delivered on Christmas day. Three of the babies were delivered through caesarian session. Eight safe deliveries were also recorded at the Tema General Hospital. Five of them were females.
