Man charged over stolen 999 car

A man has been charged after being stopped by police while driving a vehicle stolen from the East of England Ambulance Service.Police were contacted in the early hours of New Year's Day after reports a rapid response car had been stolen from Valley Road, Clacton in Essex.The Honda Accord's tracker was activated and police pursued it on the southbound carriageway of the A12.The 28-year-old man, of east London, is due at Chelmsford magistrates later.He has been charged with aggravated vehicle-taking, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance and obstructing a police officer.A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Following a short pursuit, it [the vehicle] was stopped just after Junction 16 near Galleywood."A section of the carriageway was closed for 30 minutes while the car was recovered and debris cleared from the road."
