The Bureau of National Investigations is expected to complete its probe into the swapped cocaine scandal today.
But ahead of that, another lady described as key to the ongoing probe has been arrested.
Hannah Osei is alleged to have played a central role in the cocaine-turned baking soda scandal.
Hannah Osei was on remand at the CID cells here in Accra on a land fraud case when BNI officials picked her up for questioning in connection with the swapped cocaine scandal.
She is said to be a close associate of the prime suspect in the cocaine case, Nana Ama Martins.
Joy News sources claim Ms Osei facilitated payments to some key people in the cocaine swapping deal. She is alleged to have told BNI officials some properties here in Accra were sold to bribe persons she claim are court officials who helped in replacing the cocaine with baking soda.
Our police sources say her testimony could lead to the arrest of some top court officials as the BNI zeroes in on the perpetrators.
The BNI is expected to present its findings to president Mills today. The president has warned he’ll not spare those who are found to be involved in the scandal.
Meanwhile, the chief justice’s report on this matter is ready but yet to be made public.
In a related development, lawyer for the top police woman who is being held by BNI over the swapped cocaine scandal has sued the investigative body.
Oliver Dzeble filed the suit Friday morning seeking a declaration by the court that the continued detention of DSP Gifty Mawuenyega is unlawful.
BNI officials have been holding the deputy head of the Criminal Investigations Department since December 29, 2011 over her alleged role in the cocaine-turned-baking-soda scandal.
Mr. Dzeble told Joy News’ Sammy Darko the security officials have grossly abused his client’s rights.
