Some members of the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti region are displeased with the posture of their Chief Executive to eject the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) from a property it is occupying.
The MCE, Afrifa Yamoah Ponko has vowed to “take all necessary steps” to repossess the property, accusing the bank of failing to renew its tenancy agreement.
Information available to Luv FM indicates the Assembly has already served notice for GCB to move out of the property.
But some members of the Assembly are not enthused with the development, accusing the MCE of taking unilateral decisions and failing to follow due process.
“The Assembly has not decided anything yet, so we wonder why the MCE will come out and say that the entire assembly has decided to eject the Ghana Commercial Bank from Ejisu and we suspect something fishy... Why is it that the MCE is rushing or is in a hurry to eject the bank?” queried Richmond Frimpong, the Assemblyman for the Abenase Electoral Area.
He alleged the eviction of GCB is to pave way for another bank to take over the property, because the assembly has been offered a higher bid for the property.
Mr. Frimpong believes the move will not be in the interest of majority of the constituents who have deposits and access credit facilities at GCB.
The Assembleman told Luv Fm members of the Assembly will embark on demonstration if the MCE does not rescind the decision.
“Some of the members are easy to be influenced but we won’t sit down for somebody, because of his parochial interest, to use his powers to influence some of the members. That notwithstanding, we will embark on demonstration against the Municipal Chief Executive’s decision”, he said.
