The police have dismissed findings of the committee set up by the Chief Justice to investigate the mysterious circumstances under which cocaine tendered in evidence at a circuit court was swapped into baking soda.
The committee concluded after five days of thorough investigations that the substance tendered in evidence by the police on September 27, 2011 was not cocaine.
It held the exhibit was without the usual pungent smell associated with cocaine, a fact corroborated by the prosecution.
It concluded therefore that the swap could not have been done by the court officials.
But the police think otherwise. They had prior to committee’s investigation stated emphatically that they are innocent in the infamous swap and had fingered court officials.
They are not about to shift from that position; not even the findings of the Chief Justice committee would change their mind.
Head of the Narcotics unit of the Police CID, DSP Kofi Tuajara in an interview with Joy News’ Evans Mensah insisted the cocaine exhibit was swapped at the Circuit Court and the police cannot be held responsible for it.
He however pleaded that the public must wait until the outcome of the BNI investigation.
