The dream of one woman has marvelously turned around the lives of many children suffering from Autism and Downs syndrome.
Forty years ago Madam Salome Francois decided to establish the New Horizon Special School after learning her daughter Helena was autistic.
She quit her full time job as a radiographer and dedicated her time and energy to her child.
The school began with three students but now has a roll of over hundred students.
Launching the school’s 40th anniversary, the over 80 year old Salome Francois expressed satisfaction that the school for people with disabilities has survived.
The youngest student is six years old while the oldest is fifty five years.
Many children in the school benefit from training especially in vocational skills.
The items produced are sold and monies given as allowances.
Despite the success, Principal of the New Horizon School, Vanessa Adu-Akorsah complains of lacking funding from government.
