For burgling a church, a farmer has been sentenced by the Juaso Circuit Court to serve a five-year jail term in hard labour.
Yaw Owusu pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing items valued at GH¢1,020.00, belonging to the Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries International.
Standing trial with him was Kwasi Denteh, a driver who had also been held for dishonestly receiving the stolen items.
Denteh was made to sign a 12-month bond to be of good behavior or go to prison for six months in default.
Detective Police Inspector Emmanuel Kobla Atatsi told the court presided over by Justice S. K. Sarpong Appiah that the complainant was the Head Pastor of the church at Agogo, where Owusu and Denteh also lived.
On September 29, last year, it was detected that thieves had broken into the church and made away with speakers, extension board, plastic chairs and a piece of cloth.
The prosecution said about a month later, a witness in the case found the stolen speakers in the room of Denteh and when asked how he came by them he mentioned Owusu as the one, who sold them to him.
A formal report was therefore made to the police and Owusu was arrested.
Detective Inspector Atatsi said the convict in his caution statement confessed to the crime.
