Embattled businessman Alfred Woyome has finally secured his freedom as he is released by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service.
He was granted bail by an Accra Fast Track High Court on Monday but failed to satisfy the bail bond of 54 million Ghana cedis.
His lawyers subsequently went to court and managed to get the amount reduced to 20 million cedis.
It appears he has satisfied that bail bond now, hence his release on Friday.
Special aide to Mr. Woyome, Kwame Tawiah confirmed Mr Woyome’s release to Joy News’ Dzifa Bampoh.
He has since been taken to his residence, Kwame Tawaih said, adding he was “very good…he is OK”. He said persons close to him, including family members and workers, are excited about his release.
Asked why it took his lawyers days to secure the bail bond, he paused and said grudgingly, “We have serious work to do in this country.”
Mr Woyome is expected to appear in court on February 20, and Mr Tawaih said his boss would get prepared for the day, adding confidently that “the truth in this (judgment debt) will come out on the 20th”.
He said they are now working towards the release of Mr Woyome’s frozen assets.
Mr Alfred Agbesi Woyome was arrested a fortnight ago and charged with conspiracy to commit crime, defrauding by false pretense and corrupting public officials.
Three others – a Chief State Attorney Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh and wife Gifty Nerquaye-Tetteh as well as Paul Asimenu – have also been charged over their alleged roles in the judgment debt scandal.
