The New Patriotic Party (NPP), Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has vowed to use all legitimate means to resist any attempt by government to oppress him.Ken Agyapong says he is steadfastly holding on to the words of the national anthem to resist all forms of oppression that will come his way from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its followers. The Assin North MP incurred the wrath of members of the NDC for calling President John Evans Atta Mills a “first class thief” who will be jailed by the NPP when Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wins election 2012.Ken Agyapong while speaking at a mammoth rally at Mantse Agbonaa in James Town to climax their flag-bearer’s national listening tour over the weekend called President Mills names and accused him of hiding behind God to perpetuate thievery on Ghanaians.But the NDC believes it is unbecoming and irresponsible on the part of the NPP MP hence the need to reply him in equal measure.Again, The Herald newspaper in its February 20th edition claimed Kennedy Agyapong fraudulently used two ghost companies to collect nearly $7 million United States dollars from the Ministry of Finance to finance the NPP’s 2008 campaign for no work done.The newspaper alleged that some billions of cedis were doled out to two companies, traced to Kennedy Agyapong, by the erstwhile Kufuor regime through the Ministry of Energy for electrical materials, he did not supplied.The Herald newspaper said like the pot calling the kettle black, the Assin North MP just like Alfred Abgesi Woyome also allegedly defrauded the state and therefore has no moral right to comment on the Woyome scandal.In a rebuttal, Kennedy Agyapong on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, said the attacks on his person exposes the NDC’s penchant to harass and intimidate anyone who stands up for the truth on the scandal.He added that the conduct of NDC exposes the double standards and hypocrisy of President Mills who professes to be God-fearing and incorruptible.The Assin North MP noted that he would always protect the interest of Ghana to the peril of his life to ensure the gargantuan GH¢51 million judgement debt awarded Alfred Woyome is recovered."I am not scared and nobody can intimidate me in this country. Why what do we want in this world;it is because of politics and power" he bemoaned.On The Herald newspaper allegations, the NPP MP rubbished the claims saying they are baseless. He added that the newspaper is part of government rented press to denigrate and malign members of the NPP to cover up for their hideous crimes.Mr. Agyapong said if the assertions by the newspaper were true, he would have been in jail by now.Kennedy Agyapong urged the Mills-led administration to focus on how to prosecute Woyome which is now an albatross on their neck to salvage the little integrity left than the needless vilification and intimidation of innocent NPP members.
