A farm where bidders vote for the pig they want to be turned into sausages has become an online sensation in Germany.
Voters pick out the porker they want to eat from organic farmer Bernd Schulz's stock and register their vote, with the winning pig sent to the slaughterhouse.
Bidders then buy a share of the beast when it is turned into different types of sausages, complete with its picture on the packaging.
Agriculture student Denni Buchmann - who invented the voting process - explained: "I wanted to get people back to a closer relationship with the animals they eat.
"Now this pig is no longer an anonymous packet of sausages. It's something that died so they could live."
Mr Schultz, who farms near Brandenburg, runs the sales through his website meinekleinefarm.org and has hundreds of fans on Facebook.
He added: "This is all part of our policy of good animal welfare in harmony with nature."
