Government says it has secured a $240 million loan facility to complete the abandoned Children and Maternity Block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Work on the 995-bed capacity project which begun 38 years ago has stalled over the years amid congestion at the hospital.
Health Minister, Alban Bagbin, will not give details about the money but asks the contractor to move to site to resume work.
The maternity block, with ten operating theaters, is expected to ease congestion at the hospital on completion.
Inadequate facilities at the hospital compels some mothers and their newly-born babies to sleep on the floor in the wards.
In this year’s budget, government had allocated 11 million Ghana cedis for the project.
Site Engineer for Cymain Ghana Ltd, project contractors, Zhou Fanshain, says with funds available, work should be completed within two years.
Mr. Bagbin however believes there is enough money to reduce the scheduled execution period by one year.
Mr. Bagbin also announced other measures government is pursuing to improve primary health care in the region.
